Reuters NEW YORK The Coca-Cola Company (KO.N) announced on Thursday that by 2030, 25% of its global packaging will be reusable, a move praised by environmental groups.
Consumer, investor, and environmental groups fear that petroleum-based plastic single-use bottles would pollute oceans.
According to the global group Break Free From Plastic’s annual report released in October, the firm was the world’s worst plastic polluter in 2021.
According to global corporate campaign coordinator Emma Priestland, other corporations should follow Coke’s lead and set reusable packaging targets.
Reusable packaging comprises containers that may be refilled with original product by firms or customers, the cola producer claimed, citing the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s reuse criteria.
By 2020, 16% of the company’s packaging would be recyclable. It gathered 90% of its refillable glass and plastic containers that year.
