According to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires List, Adani has a net worth of around $156.6 billion, replacing Jeff Bezos at number two.
The business conglomerate that this billionaire overseas has many subsidiaries involved in coal mining, infrastructure development, and thermal power generation. He also has a hand in private airport and port operations. While Bezos is worth $148.1 billion, Adani is worth $155.5 billion.
according to Forbes.
Amazon’s founder and CEO Bezos were ranked as the world’s richest person from 2017 to 2021, but he was surpassed by Tesla’s Musk in 2018. Overtaken by Adani and French luxury goods tycoon Bernard Arnault, he has fallen to fourth place on the list. Arnault co-founded LVMH, the parent company of Yves Saint Laurent and Mot & Chandon, among other luxury labels.
Jeff Bezos’ net worth
After starting Amazon as an online bookstore in 1994, Jeff Bezos quickly became a billionaire. He was worth $1.6 billion in 1998.
According to Forbes, his net worth reached $11 billion in 2010, and since then it has skyrocketed to over £26 billion. After starting Amazon as an online bookstore in 1994, Bezos became the world’s richest person 23 years later, in 2017.
His fortune soared to an unprecedented $160 billion in 2018, then dropped to $114 billion in 2019. Until now, Bezos had the most wealth of any individual on the planet.
Two years later, however, SpaceX founder Elon Musk overtook him.
He lost the lead this week to Gautam Adani and Bernard Arnault, two new billionaires.
Don’t feel too bad about Bezos, though. As of this writing, Forbes estimates his wealth to be $148.1 billion.
His dethroning from the top spot is more attributable to others’ economic success than to his own financial mismanagement.
His personal fortune is heavily dependent on the performance of Amazon’s stock, which has been declining as people spend less time at home due to fewer precautions against pandemics and more time engaging in outside activities.
With a current market cap of $1.27 trillion, the company is still an e-commerce behemoth.
Adani Enterprises Ltd. shares hit an all-time high this week, making him the first Asian businessperson to ever rank so highly on the list. Since the beginning of the year, when he was ranked number 14 on the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, his wealth has skyrocketed.
Still, he is about $120 billion poorer than Musk, who is worth $277.1 billion.
Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, comes next. Gates held the title of the world’s wealthiest person for over two decades, from 1995 to 2017. He is worth $105.2 billion according to estimates.
